Not Using Stereo Bluetooth Yet? here you go…

May 3, 2008

For all of you who have not moved to a wireless stereo headset, and listen to music on your Palm phone, you may have noticed one small challenge. It is a 2.5mm challenge to be exact. Your headphones probably don’t fit. So what to do? If you have a Palm Centro or a Palm Treo then here is the solution. Get a
Universal 2.5mm to 3.5mm Headset Adapter! It is inexpensive ($2.99 plus shipping) and works great! You can use it for your wired head phones or also in your car with an FM transmitter. Before I went wireless I would turn on my pTunes music, connect my Treo to the adapter which was connected to the fm transmitter to listen to mp3’s in my car. If I was going to the gym I could then just unplug the fm transmitter and plug in my head phones. Virtually seamless music transfer. The adapter is a must have if you listen to music on your Palm Centro or Treo. Make sure you get a flexible one though because there are straight ones that have been known to break, because of their size- leaving the “male” end in your phone (sucks!) If you are ready to go to a wireless stereo bluetooth headset for your Palm phone then check out the following post for details:

Stereo Bluetooth on Treo & Centro just made music a little better

The iPhone is cooler than the Centro which is better :)

March 24, 2008

I don’t know if ending a sentence with a smiley face is proper English, but I know 2 things: The iPhone is cooler than the Centro, but I would rather have the Centro.

  1. The iPhone is a multimedia dream come true! The Centro takes pics and videos, can manage them into folders, & slideshows with background music. I can also watch full length dvd-quality movies on my small screen or use my Centro as a usb/thumb drive and watch my movies on a computer (laptop when I travel), I can listen to mp3s, live internet radio, watch YouTube videos, and watch LIVE tv on my Centro when I am bored, or waiting somewhere.
  2. The iPhone plays iTunes! Speaking of music, I can listen to my tunes using the speaker, or using stereo bluetooth headphones (see prior blog) Why would I ever use a WIRED headset again?- this is 2008!!!!
  3. The iPhone fits in your pocket…and must weigh close to 5 lbs (not really) but noticeably more than my Centro, which is also smaller in size overall.
  4. The iPhone has a high-res beautiful screen! Palm used to have devices with big touchscreens, like 20 years ago, but found that people prefer a tactile keyboard to type on and be more productive…and the Centro is not THAT hard to type on.
  5. The iPhone has wifi! But why do you need wifi when you have EVDO, and eventually rev-a/Wimax (on NOVA) And the Edge data network is…………………………………..just……………………………….so………………………………slow…… (which does suck for ATT Centro)
  6. Safari lets you do that cool thing with your fingers to enlarge and navigate a webpage! Why do I need to do that when I can scroll with my finger if I want to…on a page OPTIMIZED for my device?!
  7. Apple is easy to use! Palm is easy once you spend about 20 minutes figuring it out…I did this about 3 years ago, and since then have found it extremely easy to use. Here is all you need to know: learn where the menu and option button are, you can customize most buttons/features, and there is endless 3rd party software if you get bored, with the “factory” offerings.
  8. The iPhone is a lot less $ than when it first came out…but the Centro is only$100 for most wireless customers.
  9. The iPhone is compatible with my Mac! so is Palm OS
  10. and last but not least…The iPhone is cool and more hip…ok can’t argue with you on that one :) but Palm does have a cool site called www.moreyous.com

If you disagree, with me, and I hope some of you do, or else there is no fun in writing such a blog, please let me know!!!

The Foleo world is flat, Redfly world is round

March 24, 2008

When Palm announced a device that would be very portable (slim and lightweight) and give a smartphone user both a big keyboard and screen to manage information and apps they have & use on their handheld device, i.e. Treo, everyone in the blogosphere thought it was the MOST RIDICULOUS idea of all time. In my opinion the web-based response was the downfall of the Foleo. I personally thought it was a great idea because I use my Centro (then Treo) for everything and

1) I realize the OS on handheld devices will soon match the power of 2007’s laptops,
2) didn’t want to spend the $2000 it would cost to get a similarly sized laptop, and
3) like the idea of a bigger screen and keyboard when needed.

So down went the Foleo, seeming almost like cement-shoes to Palm. Now Redfly (Windows version of Foleo) seems all the rage!?!?!?!?! I don’t get it. Isn’t it so similar that it should likewise be chastised and laughed into the same category as Coke II and the Foleo? Maybe Palm WAS ahead of their time, and not so crazy after all. Maybe we should have a little more faith in Palm that they aren’t that far off-base. Just maybe, Nova will be cool, and maybe, just maybe, opening a whole new market of smartphone users with the Centro (which is better than the Treo for less money) is not so financially irresponsible after all. So was the world flat when Foleo came out last year, or has it been round this whole time?

Simply Everything from Sprint for Treo & Centro including tether (phone as modem)

March 1, 2008

Sprint’s new simply everything plan gives unlimited everything from calls, to text to internet. But what if you want unlimited Phone-As-Modem aka tethering? PDAnet from Junefabrics.com is what you need . It is an application that allows PAM without paying the additional $40/mo. It is easy to download, and even comes with a trial version. The price is only $34 (one time) I have used this for 2 1/2 years and love it for when I am on the go, since I stopped using my aircard for my laptop. It works with the Palm Treo and Centro. The Centro is one of the fastest internet phones you can buy not using any wi-fi, plus you don’t have to worry about hot-spots or finding an unsecure network.

Stereo Bluetooth on Treo & Centro just made music a little better

February 27, 2008

I have been using Softick’s Audio-Gateway for about a year. The early versions had a lot of bugs. The new 1.20.1995 version is much improved. There is still some lag time and it has caused some resets and crashes, but I deal with it. Once you go wireless with your music it is so hard to go back, try only using a wired home phone- not a cordless :) I use it on my Palm Centro and with my Moto S9 headset. I listen to music, audiobooks, and now it supports SprintTV and the streaming music stations (Sprint Radio) Sprint provides for Free with a power vision package. This software takes the place of the physical adapter that is sold with the Moto S9 for the ipod and is only $20. I would highly recommend doing the free trial first, but I think you will soon be addicted to the wireless experience. Wires are so 2006 :) Within 5 years I bet you won’t see any wired headsets anywhere. Let me know how it works. Here are some pics including the way I set it up to get the best sound with the least lag…………….. ag_ui.jpgag_about.jpgag_configuresettings.jpgag_faster.jpgag_music_radio.jpg

Time to Learn Ur Phone!

February 21, 2008

Hello all,

This is the beginning of Learnurphone which teaches how to get better acquainted with the Palm OS. In the future I hope to transition our subscriber base to a new and improved Palm product. Palm has experienced a lot of negative press recently so I hope they pull through and create an amazing new phone/mobile device. With the advent of the iPhone, and soon to be G-Phone, they are going to face increased competition, but I think they can pull it out. I see the G-Phone as facing too many challenges to market and with Samsung as the manufacturer, I am predicting a poor-quality device. The iPhone seems more of a gimmick than a productivity device. My Treos and now Centro have great web-browsers that reformat sites to be easily read, and does a million other things that I use on a regular basis. The internet with Sprint is fast for Google Maps, and mobile voice control. Voice control allows me to send text msgs, emails, Google things, and add appointments all with my voice, and pressing one button. (see my links page) The iPhone can’t do that :)

If you ever have any questions about the Palm OS phones, let me know and I will get the answer for you!
